A subdivision of the eastern division of Merriam's life zones; an example is southern Florida, where the vegetation is the broadleaf evergreen forest; typical and important plants are palms and mangroves; typical and important animals are the armadillo and alligator; typical and important crops are citrus fruits, avocado, and banana.
