It might seem silly to bypass the tube output stage and use this unit only as a transport, but if one wants to make a digital copy of a CD to a DAT or CD-R, for example, it could come in very handy.
Although I did hear a difference between this player and my reference, I will assume that most of the differences were because of the tube output stage of the AMC.
