TWAM also operates a new trading body, owned by the councils and the university, which will bring profits back into the service.
TWAM wants to attract new talent and entrepreneurial skills to the board that will help it become more self-sustaining as the Government grant continues to reduce.
The new funding will also mean that TWAM staff wil hear what is recorded on an early Edison phonograph cylinder, donated in 1936, for the first time.

TWAM is also exploring the possibility of bringing Rocket, Robert Stephenson's famous steam locomotive, back from London to be displayed in Newcastle where it was designed and built in 1829.
