At the same time the Oregon Legislature passed a 2010 ban on the practice of burning fields on the valley floor, it also delivered a small bit of help: money for a plan to build a plant in Junction City to convert straw into energy.
This area affords a spectacular view of the famed Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau mountains, and offers a few different path options: up, up, up to the Schilthorn or a meander parallel to the valley floor.
By car there is the Central Sperrin's Scenic Driving Route or the South Sperrin's Scenic Driving Route and for cyclists there are now a number of new cycle routes available (some offering a leisurely trip through flat lands found along valley floors, while others offer a challenge to the more active minded by taking in the hills of the high Sperrin's).
