It has been shown to play a critical role in vascular stasis as well as inhibiting vascular smooth muscle proliferation, platelet adhesion and aggregation, and local inflammation.
This tumor neovessel stasis seems to occur in two phases: (1) an initial constriction followed by (2) a thrombosis (clot) formation resulting in vascular stasis.
3) Liver failure is theorized to occur from plugging of hepatic sinusoids by bile and sickle red blood cells, leading to vascular stasis and local hypoxia.
