Topical vasoconstriction was achieved by placing a cottonoid pledget soaked in 1:1,000 epinephrine solution for 10 minutes. Peripheral vasoconstriction was used to measure nausea, and the study found that only 4 of the 50 patients were constricted in the acupressure group, compared to 48 of the 50 in the placebo group. The first possible cause of renal failure is due to vasoconstriction or hypoperfusion of the kidneys (Szewczyk et al 1998). |
