velocity head [və′läs·əd·ē ‚hed]
(fluid mechanics)
The square of the speed of flow of a fluid divided by twice the acceleration of gravity; it is equal to the static pressure head corresponding to a pressure equal to the kinetic energy of the fluid per unit volume.

Of a fluid moving with a given velocity: the equivalent height through which a body must fall to acquire the same velocity.
