veratrine [′ver·ə‚trēn] (materials) An alakaloid mixture from the seeds of sabadilla (Schoenocaulon officinale); which is toxic, colorless, soluble in alcohol and ether, very slightly soluble in water, and melts at about 150°C; used in medicine.
