(1) To prove the correctness of data.

(2) In data entry operations, to compare the keystrokes of a second operator with the data entered by the first operator to ensure that the data were typed in accurately. See validate.

To ensure that the meaning and phraseology of the transmitted message convey the exact intention of the originator.
(computer science)
To determine whether an operation has been completed correctly, and in particular, to check the accuracy of keypunching by using a verifier.
