vertical tail [′vərd·ə·kəl ′tāl]
(aerospace engineering)
A part of the tail assembly of an aircraft; consists of a fin (a symmetrical airfoil in line with the center line of the fuselage) fixed to the fuselage or body and a rudder which is movable by the pilot.
