virtual tape system |
0.08 sec. |
|
A peripheral unit that combines a disk cache and tape library to improve performance and eliminate cartridge waste. Also called a "virtual tape server," data intended for tape are written to the disk cache and later written to tape in the background. If a tape is read frequently, a certain amount of its data is held in the cache, which greatly improves access times over the slow loading process of a robotic library. |

Some VTL solutions, especially those modeled after mainframe virtual tape systems, have policy management engines that dictate actions based on age of data, host origination, data types, retention requirements, availability requirements (time-to-data), performance requirements, and more, within robust security parameters. To optimize storage environments, FalconStor SIR utilizes its Redundant Data Elimination (RDE) Engine to scan the virtual tape system for duplicate files. CentricStor is a heterogeneous virtual tape system designed and manufactured by Fujitsu Siemens Computers and now available in the U. |
