desktop virtualization
(1) A virtualized environment in the user's machine. Also called "client virtualization" and "endpoint virtualization," the computer hosts multiple virtual machines, each of which contains an operating system and a set of applications. See virtual machine.

(2) A thin client architecture in which each user is assigned a virtual machine (OS and applications) running in a server in the network. See thin client and virtual machine.
