An introduction offers a brief refresher course in applique steps, and the individual projects listed range from decorations of birds to a quilt block tote, to a spooky wall hanging for Halloween, and much more. From Nadine Robinson's large wall hanging made of synthetic hair, Laquita (2004), to Chakaia Booker's tire-rubber sculpture, Repungent Repunzel (Let Down Your Hair) (1995), black hair was a theme that resonated throughout the exhibition. As we gathered in the ADES offices to say our farewells, the ADES staff unrolled a painted wall hanging as a testimonial to the enduring partnership between ADES and PWRDF which has continued to strengthen over many years. |
