water-reducing admixture

1. An admixture which either (a) increases the slump of freshly mixed concrete or mortar without increasing the water content or (b) maintains the slump with a reduced amount of water due to factors other than air entrainment.
2. In concrete, an admixture which can produce a large reduction in water or flowability without an undue set retardation or entrainment of air.

It is crucial to add that standard PN-EN 934-2 [36] is differentiating between two groups of water-reducing admixtures distinguished according to following criteria:
These control mixtures were subsequently modified by using a high-range water-reducing admixture to increase slump (C11, C12, C13, C21, C22), incorporating a viscosity-modifying admixture (VMA) to increase viscosity (C14), or adding water to increase slump (C23).
With an eye to sustainable construction, BASF Admixture Systems has formulated a new water-reducing admixture, Pozzolith 700N, for use in ready mixed concrete designed with SCM.
