Wax Plant (hoya carnosa): This tropical plant with thick waxy leaves originates in southeast Asia. Astor Wax, a Doraville, GA-based manufacturer of specialty waxes and petroleum-based products for rubber and plastics, is expanding its Marshall, TX, specialty wax plant with the installation of five blenders and an extra 700,000 pounds of raw material tankage to shorten customer order lead times. The $15 million (Canadian) capital expansion program in 1996 included an emulsified wax plant completed last month, and new capacity commissioned in January 1996 for both liquid and spray-dried phenolic resins. |
