wikiup: see wickiup wickiup , temporary dwelling of nomadic Native North Americans. It is a framework of arched poles covered by brush, bark, rushes, or mats. The wickiup is found among Native Americans in Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Idaho, and California.

A relatively small, temporary, round dwelling of the Apache Indians of the American Southwest; could be reassembled relatively easily and quickly; had a lightweight framework formed by saplings lashed together at their tops so as to form either a domed structure or a conical structure. Additional poles were placed along the sides of the framework to provide added structural strength; the framework was covered with a matting.

from Wikiup Bed & Breakfast Inn, 1645 Whispering Pines, a mile east of Julian off Highway 78.
Community Clean Water Institute received $5,000 to be used to perform water quality and instream flow monitoring at five locations in the Mark West Creek Watershed in the Larkfield and Wikiup areas of Sonoma County.
Tribal members even helped build some of the main exhibits, such as a traditional cedar-plank house made by Don Day of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde and a traditional wikiup made by Minerva Soucie of the Burns Paiute community.
