word wheel |
0.01 sec. |
|
A lookup method in which each character that is typed in moves the on-screen index to the closest match. By watching the index move character by character, you can easily tell if you have made a typo. In addition, you can get to the beginning of a word group quickly and then scroll to the word or phrase you are looking for. The Windows versions of this database use a word wheel as did the first DOS version back in 1990. How to thank TFD for its existence? | The word wheel eliminates trial-and-error searching by enabling users to preview indexes. The add-on boasts a Java word wheel that allows users to preview the keyword indexes of all the words in a DB/Text WebServer database located on Web sites or intranets, thus eliminating trial-and-error searching. In addition, users can manually browse a general word wheel, so that they can get a sense of the scope of the database. |
