It surprised no one who knew her that she would take a leading role in getting the city to designate her old church as a historical landmark and save it from the wrecking ball.
Like its name suggests, the behemoth horseshoe-shaped attachment is used in ways akin to a wrecking ball, only it is dropped on a structure from above instead of swung into it.
Often, people don't learn that they are going to destroy a building until they see a wrecking ball and demolition permit.
