Yellow-Breasted Bunting

(Emberiza aureola), a bird of the family Emberizidae, order Passeriformes. The body is approximately 15 cm long. The male has a rusty-brown back, bright yellow underparts, and a dark, narrow band on the throat. The female is less brilliantly colored. The yellow-breasted bunting is a bird of Asiatic origin that has gradually moved westward: since the 18th century it has spread from western Siberia and is now found from western Siberia to southern Finland, Leningrad, and the Dnieper basin. In the European parts of its area of distribution it lives in flood meadows, and in Siberia it is found in forests, except for dry pine woods and dense taiga. It builds nests on the ground and winters in Southeast Asia.
