yeti: see abominable snowman abominable snowman or yeti (yĕt`ē) ..... Click the link for more information. . Abominable SnowmanTibetan YetiMythical monster believed to inhabit the Himalayas near the snow line. The Yeti is thought to resemble an oversized man covered with shaggy fur. Reported sightings are rare; evidence of its existence consists largely of unusual footprints left in the snow, probably the tracks of bears. At certain gaits, bears place the hindfoot partly over the imprint of the forefoot, thus creating tracks that resemble the footprints of a very large primate heading in the opposite direction. yeti(Young, Entrepreneurial technocraTI) Coined around the turn of the century during the dot-com bubble, there is also a "yetti" variation, which means "young, entrepreneurial, tech-based twenty-something." This 64-page picturebook provides young readers with touches of Tibetan culture that takes the form of adventures with yaks, yetis, monks, wisemen, and mystical beings. The characters they encounter in their search for the bejeweled Golden Dragon, a mystical, prophesying statue, are as exotic as the location, including a tribe of dying warrior Yetis, telepathic Buddhist monks, evil Blue Warriors, international thieves and royalty. Although most of our respondents have stressed that they were brought up in quite permissive families ("Cok serbest yetis tirild ik biz") where traditional codes of sexual segregation did not apply, managing new social relationships with men usually necessitated strict sexual repression, and the responsibility of proper social conduct usually fell on young women's shoulders rather than men's. |
