Zamia
a genus of perennial plants of the family Cycadaceae. The stems are mostly short and tuberiform with small leathery pinnate leaves. The anther (microstrobile) and seed (macrostrobile) cones are located on certain plants of the dioecious type. The seeds have a pulpy succulent seed cover. There are about 35 species distributed from Florida and Mexico to the tropical regions of South America. Local populations obtain starch from the plants of some species of Zamia. Z. media is sometimes grown in greenhouses. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
