zone of saturation [′zōn əv ‚sach·ə′rā·shən]
(hydrology)
A subsurface zone in which water fills the interstices and is under pressure greater than atmospheric pressure. Also known as phreatic zone; saturated zone.

zone of saturation
The level below which the subsoil and rock masses of the earth are fully saturated. See illustration under groundwater.
