Östersund
(östərsŭnd`), city (1990 pop. 42,860), capital of Jämtland co., central Sweden, on Lake Storsjön; founded 1786. ÖStersund
a city in northern Sweden, on Lake Storsjön. Capital of the Iän (county) of Jämtland. Population, 54,100 (1976). A railroad junction, Östersund has metalworking and woodworking industries. It is a center for skiing and skating.
