MPEG-2, which is formally referred to as ISO/IEC standard 13818-2
and ITU-T recommendation H.262 and is also known as MPEG-2 Video or MPEG-2 Part 2, introduced three frame types that are also used in the subsequent coding standards: intracoded (I) frames are encoded as stand-alone pictures without references (dependencies) to other frames.
