3DNow!

A technology developed for the K6-2 series of microprocessors from AMD to speed up floating point operations used in graphics-intensive applications. It provides a performance boost that enables more realistic rendering of 3D graphics, as well as faster multimedia playback. The technology is a combination of execution units and new instructions within the microprocessor. See K6.

The K6-2 was also the first chip offering 3DNow extensions.
Sanders explained that, although he takes the Celeron threat seriously, AMD is confident about its chances, mainly because of the K6-2's 100-MHz bus and 3Dnow technology.
But Microprocessor Report thinks AMD should give up on its own 3DNow multimedia extensions and adopt Intel's KNI or do something more radical like adopting the more powerful Motorola Inc AltiVec instructions.
