AMOLED

(Active Matrix OLED) An OLED display technology widely used for smartphone, tablet and TV screens. As with all active matrix displays, each pixel is driven separately with the typical AMOLED pixel using two transistors and one capacitor.

Contrast with "passive matrix OLED" (PMOLED), which drives the pixels by row and column (x-y) coordinates. Active matrix OLEDs are the OLED counterpart to active matrix LCDs (AMLCDs), and PMOLEDs are like passive matrix LCDs (PMLCDs). See OLED, LCD, active matrix and passive matrix.

Reflecting strong demand for advanced displays, Samsung said early this week that it would invest 2.5 trillion won ($2.15 billion) by 2012 to build the world s largest production line of ultra-bright active-matric organic light-emitting diode (AM-OLED) screens.
Meanwhile, its new touch screen mobile also features full touch screen capability, a next-generation AM-OLED display screen and improved processor to deliver speedy mobile Internet access.
The other emerging area in AM-flat panel display (FPD) is the emissive display such as active-matrix organic light-emitting display (AM-OLED), where the organic light-emitting diode (OLED) is directly integrated with the TFT pixel electrode circuit.
