atrioventricular node

[¦ā·trē·o‚ven¦trik·yə·lər ′nōd]
(anatomy)
A group of slow-conducting fibers in the atrium of the vertebrate heart that are stimulated by impulses originating in the sinoatrial node and conduct impulses to the bundle of His.

In addition, it is thought that dexamethasone could be beneficial with the fetal cardiac involvements, such as SB, echogenicity near AV node, and ventricular systolic dysfunction with valve regurgitation.
P waves should be positive in the inferior leads because right atrial activation starts at the sinus node and propagates to the AV node in an inferior direction.
Normally cardiac conduction originates from the sinus node and travels to the AV node, where conduction is slowed, and then proceeds to the His-Purkinje system, and finally to the rest of the ventricular myocardium.
However, it also occurs as a result of drugs that slow AV node conduction (beta blockers or calcium channel blockers) or in persons with intrinsic AV nodal disease, myocarditis, acute inferior myocardial infarction or ischemia, and after cardiac surgery (Sauer, 2013).
The only way for electricity from the upper rooms of the heart (the atria) to get down to the lower rooms of the heart (the ventricles) is through the AV node and the normal conduction system.
Electrical signals from the Vagus nerve, the tenth cranial nerve, slow the heart directly at the SA and AV nodes, In contrast, signals from the sympathetic trunk stimulate the SA and AV nodes and can dramatically increase HR above resting levels.
Complete heart block is the most common postoperative arrhythmia requiring longterm therapy, and most commonly arises after surgery near the AV node (e.
If you had successful ablation of the AV node, then the atria (top portion of your heart) should not be conducting to the ventricles (bottom chambers), whether you have atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter.
There were no cases of permanent AV block in 151 ablated subjects with AVNRT or AVRT, despite frequent ablations near the AV node, according to the manufacturer.
The AV node then sends the impulses to the Bundle of His.
Harrington suffered from a defect in his AV node, the most common form of SVT.
