an urban-type settlement in Kareli Raion, Georgian SSR, in the Kura valley. It is a railroad station 100 km northwest of Tbilisi. Population in 1968, 4,800. Agara has a sugar refinery, a cannery, champagne and fruit wineries, a fruit-juice plant, and a machine-repair plant.
