Agenzia Nazionale Stampa Associata
(Ansa; National Associated Press Agency), the Italian news agency. Founded in 1945. Considered to be a cooperative association of those newspaper publishers who own its shares, it is financed to a considerable extent by the Italian government, which in effect controls the agency’s function. It has reciprocal agreements (1968) with news agencies in 30 countries (including TASS) and has correspondents in 48 countries.
