Mukalla, Al-


a city in the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen. Population, 65,000 (1970). A port on the Gulf of Aden, al-Mukalla is a center of trade. Dried fish, tobacco, coffee, and hides are exported. There is handicraft production of mats, baskets, and cigarettes; fish are processed in the city.
