Al-Mansur Abu Jafar Abdullah Ibn Muhammad

 

Born 707; died 775in Baghdad. Caliph of the Abbasid dynasty who ruled from 754 to 775. Al-Mansur brought about administrative and financial reforms in the Arabian Caliphate and encouraged the development of trade and crafts. In 762 he founded the city of Baghdad, which became the capital of the caliphate.
