Alaska Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve
Location:Along Haines Highway, between mileposts 8 and 30.
Facilities:Picnic sites, toilets, water, boat launch.
Activities:Eagle watching.
Special Features:The preserve provides critical habitat for the world's largest concentration of bald eagles. The area is a year-round home for 200 to 400 eagles and seasonal home to more than 3,000 eagles during the Fall Congregation (October through February). The main viewing area is between miles 18 and 24 of Haines Highway, where the Chilkat River fans out and rarely freezes.
