Albichthol

 

(also, white Ichthyol), a medicinal preparation that is a refined light oil of shale tar. A mixture of homologues of thiophene with an admixture of hydrocarbons, albichthol contains at least 9 percent sulfur. It is used externally in ointment form for such skin disorders as burns, erysipelas, and eczema and in suppositories and globules for such inflammatory diseases of the lesser pelvic organs as metritis and salpingitis.
