Aleisk

 

a city, the center of Aleisk Raion, Altai Krai, RSFSR. It is situated on the Alei River, a tributary of the Ob’ River, 120 km southwest of Barnaul. Population in 1968, 32,000. Aleisk has a railroad station. Its major industries process agricultural raw materials; there is a sugar refinery and milling, meat, and butter and cheese combines. Aleisk is also the site of metal-working and repair plants.
