|Birthplace||Dallas, Texas, United States|
Radio host, film producer
|Known for||Various conspiracy theories such as 9/11 Truth and New World Order theories;|
Alex Jones has been a leader in the alternative media for years, exposing a number of governmental subterfuges on his radio program that is broadcast nationwide.
In 2011 the Activist Post ranked Alex Jones at the top of its list of “The Most Influential People in the Alternative Media.” Since he began his career in Austin, Texas with a public access television program in 1996, Alexander Emrick “Alex” Jones has found himself at the center of many controversies, especially when he accused the U.S. government of being involved in the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 and the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center. When pressed to describe his political views, he usually answers that he is a libertarian, but he has also identified himself as a paleoconservative and an aggressive constitutionalist. For those in the mainstream of American culture, Jones is a right-wing conspiracy theorist, a description that he personally rejects.
A Rolling Stone article by Alexander Zuitchick described Jones as “a giant in America’s conspiracy subculture” who makes Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh sound like “tea-sipping NPR hosts on Zoloft” in comparison. The same article quoted Michael Harrison, editor of the industry trade magazine Talkers, as opining that “when the history is written of talk broadcasting’s transition from the corporate model of the 20th century to the digital, independent model of the 21st century, [Alex Jones] will be considered an early trailblazer.”
Jones’ syndicated news/talk show, The Alex Jones Show, is based in Austin and airs via the Genesis Communication Network over sixty AM, FM, and shortwave radio stations across the United States and the Internet. His popular conspiracy websites include Infowars.com and PrisonPlanet.com.
Jones is also a filmmaker, averaging two films a year. Among his titles are America: Destroyed by Design (1997), Dark Secrets: Inside Bohemian Grove (2000), Police State 2000 (2000), 9-11: The Road to Tyranny (2002), The Masters of Terror (2003), A History of Government-sponsored Terrorism (2006), and End-game: Blueprint for Global Enslavement (2007).
