All-Russian Chronicle Codices

 

chronicles that recount the history of particular regions and principalities from a national perspective and include earlier chronicles from various feudal centers in medieval Rus’. The concept of “all-Russian chronicle codices” was introduced by A. A. Shakhmatov, who thought that they were compiled at the behest of Russian metropolitans from the early 14th century onward. The Tale of Bygone Years (Primary Chronicle) is generally regarded as the first all-Russian chronicle codex.
