Facilities:168 campsites, 32 utility campsites (with water and electrical hookups; 1 @di), group camp, 4 restrooms (é), showers, picnic shelter, picnic areas, hiking trails (2 miles), swimming area, boat launch, dock, park store.
Activities:Camping, boating, windsurfing, fishing, swimming, hiking.
Special Features:Located in north-central Washington, where mountain pine forests meet the desert. Alta Lake is about two miles long and a half-mile wide, and was named by Mr Heinz, a jeweler who was mining in the area. Finding the lake without a name he named it after his daughter.

After drinking in the views, I pedaled to my last stop, the sparkling 1.5-mile-long Alta Lake. At Rainbow Park, a stretch of lawn and sandy swimming beach along the lake, couples sprawled on the grass; admirably fit 20-somethings played volleyball; and families swam in the sun-warmed water (again, I wished for my bathing suit).
The resort lies in the shadow of the neighbouring Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains and the valley boasts lush green forests and five stunning lakes, including Alta Lake, Lost Lake and the glacial Green Lake, all begging to be explored whether hiking, biking or canoeing.
Whistler's Alta Lake Park, Rainbow Park, and Lost Lake Park each have sandy beaches where families can relax.
On the shores of Alta Lake, now within the boundaries of Whistler village, Rainbow Lodge was opened in 1914--the same year the Pacific Great Eastern Railway started running up from Howe Sound.
