Alushta

a city in Crimean Oblast, Ukrainian SSR, located 50 km southeast of Simferopol’ and 33 km northeast of Yalta. A trolleybus line connects Alushta and Simferopol’. The population of Alushta in 1967 was 18,000. It is a health resort on the Southern Crimean Shore, with a considerably cooler climate than at other resorts of the Southern Shore. There are sanatoriums, workers’ resorts, Young Pioneers’ camps, a tourist center, and a therapy beach. Alushta is a year-round health resort. It has five wineries, a dairy plant, and a furniture factory. It also has a historical and revolutionary museum and a literary museum in honor of the writer and academician S. N. Sergeev-Tsenskii.
