resemble hare’s ears. A mantle covers the thin lamellar shell. Glands in the mantle cavity secrete a poisonous pigmented fluid. The foot has lateral flaps, which serve for swimming. There are approximately 35 species. Sea hares are herbivorous and live mainly in tropical seas. Their large nerve cells are used in neuro-physiological research.
