Anglo-Nepalese War of 1814–16

 

a predatory war waged by the British East India Company against Nepal. The British army was superior in numbers and weapons to the Nepalese. In 1816 the Nepalese army was beaten near Katmandu. By the Segaon treaty of 1816, Nepal ceded Sik-kim, Kumaun, Garhwal, and a number of other territories to the East India Company. The most important political condition of the agreement was that British residents were to be allowed into Katmandu. Nepal’s foreign policy came under the control of the British.
