appropriate technology(redirected from Appropriate technology for developing countries)
appropriate technologyforms of technology which best utilize the resources and human skills available in a given society The term has been applied particularly to poorer countries where the transfer of high technology may act to the disadvantage of the receiving country. Instead, less capital intensive and more ‘environmentally friendly’ technologies may be better utilized for production. Use of such technologies rejects the widespread assumption that technological advance determines general societal ‘progress’. See also INTERMEDIATE TECHNOLOGY.
