I have already remarked that he mentioned the benedictional in an unexpected section of his epistle to Parker, that dealing with letters: the original part of the Paris book opens (fos [7.sup.r-8.sup.v]) with a letter of Pope John XII to Archbishop Dunstan. Designation of this codex as a benedictional would also seem strange, for the pontifical element is clearly preponderant (fos 9-105): but the material added at Sherborne includes on its first page ([1.sup.v]) `Benedictiones in conuersione sancti Pauli apostoli'.(19)
