Arches National Park,

76,519 acres (30,979 hectares), E Utah; est. as a national monument 1929, designated a national park 1971. Located in red-rock country and overlooking the gorge of the Colorado River, this area contains a vast and unusual array of natural rock formations. Established: Proclaimed as a national monument on April 12, 1929; established as a national park on November 12, 1971.
Location:In southeast Utah, 5 miles north of Moab along Highway 191.
Facilities:Campground (é), group campsites, picnic area, rest rooms (é), visitor center (é), museum/exhibit, self-guided tour/trail. Entrance fee required.
Activities:Camping, hiking, bicycling, auto touring, interpretive programs (March-October).
Special Features:Highlighted by a striking environment of contrasting colors, landforms and textures, park preserves more than 2,000 natural sandstone arches, in addition to a variety of unique geological resources and formations including balanced rocks, fins, and pinnacles.
