Arpino, Gerald

(1928–  ) ballet dancer, choreographer; born on Staten Island, N.Y. Trained early in classical and modern dance, he was a leading dancer and resident choreographer with Robert Joffrey's companies from 1956–64. He became assistant director of the Joffrey Ballet in 1965 and artistic director in 1988.
