a mountain range in the southern part of the Inner Tien-Shan in the Kirghiz SSR.
The Atbashi extends from the west-southwest to the east-northeast, separating the Atbashi Hollow in the north from the Chatyrkel’ Hollow and the Aksai Divide in the south. The range is 135 km long, with elevations of up to 4,786 m. The Atbashi is composed of Paleozoic metamorphic shales, limestones, sandstones, and some igneous rocks (granites and syenites). On the crest of the range there are glacial forms and some modern glaciation (with an area of approximately 150 sq km). Mountain meadows and subniv-ean landscapes prevail in the Atbashi.
