In west-central OH, south of Lima; organized Feb 14, 1848 from Allen and Mercer counties. Name Origin: For the Auglaize River, which traverses it; from French 'at the stream' or 'at the lick,' with possible reference to a salt lick; or from an Indian word meaning 'fallen timbers.'

The Wallpaper Project's play, Ordinary Heroes, is based on oral history interviews with residents of Auglaize County, Ohio. (The project's name comes from peeling off the layers of old wallpaper to find the treasure beneath.) This is the third such production by this community history program in collaboration with the Great Lakes Theater Festival and director Todd Krispinsky.
