Azomethine Dyes

 

organic dyes whose molecules contain the characteristic chromophore groups—CH=N—. The azomethine dyes include one of the first synthetic dyes, purple-red murexide. Its formation serves as a characteristic reaction for uric acid, which forms this dye during evaporation with diluted HNO3 and the subsequent addition of ammonia.
