Bandar-e Imam Khomeini

(bän`där-ā ē`mäm khō'mānē`), town (1991 est. pop. 56,998), Khuzestan prov., SW Iran, a port at the head of the Persian Gulf. It is the southern terminus of the Trans-Iranian Railway, which runs to the Caspian Sea. The town was formerly known as Bandar-e Shahpur.

On the sidelines of his visit to Bandar-e Imam Khomeini port, Khuzestan province, late on Monday, the Iranian official told reporters, "Khuzestan has maritime and land border with Iraq and visiting customs centers of the region is one of the purposes of my trip to Khuzestan to advance infrastructures, so that Khuzestan can increase its share in maritime and border trades with Iraq".
