Even if this parallel is not touched upon by the author, it may be worth remarking that a very similar construct of Zacharias' murder is found in Matthew 23:35: "That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom you slew between the temple and the altar." The identification of this Zacharias with the father of John the Baptist mentioned in Luke 1:5-25 is first found (in a datable work) in Origen, who lived shortly after the composition of the Gospel of James and was probably inspired by it.
