(Latin form: Barletius). Born 1450; died 1512. Albanian historian.
Barleti took part in the defense of the city of Shkodër against the Turkish forces in 1478. In 1505 he published his work On the Siege of Shkodër in Venice. In Rome, between 1508 and 1510, Barleti’s work entitled History of the Life and Exploits of Skanderbeg, . . . Prince of the Epirotes appeared. It laid the basis for Albanian historiography and was translated from Latin into a number of European languages as early as the 16th century.
